If the history of bollywood films had been looked into it will be seen that many actors and actresses got involved in production of films after being in the profession for substantial period of time. Some of the them had succeeded while others stopped production due to lack of success.

Raj Kapoor and Guru Dutt started their careers with productions of their own. They also knew the art of direction. So they don’t fall within this category. In fact their standards as producers were so high that their best acting lies in their production. Directors like Hrishikesh Mukherjee or Mehboob Khan or Pacchi could not utilize Raj Kapoor in the manner he utilized himself in films like Awara, Shree 420, or Sangam, etc. Guru Dutt was at his best in films like Pyaasa or Aar Par or Mr. and Mrs. 55, all under his own production.

In respect of actor turned producers list Shahrukh Khan had mixed responses. Dreams Unlimited developed by Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla did great business in films like Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, but again did mediocre business in other films as well. Anil Kapoor started production few years back. He had success with films like Shortcut, but still his films had not done great business if compared with the hit films of his brother Boney Kapoor who had hit films including No Entry, Hamara Dil Aapke Pass Hai.

Saif Ali Khan had started his career as producer with the film Love Aaj Kal. The film has all the elements of a hit film. With the performance of Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, the viewers are also enthusiastic about its performance. Saif Ali Khan had taken a great decision in casting himself in the main role which releases the pressure of a producer.

But it is too early to foretell that Saif Ali Khan will be a successful producer. There are reasons for making such statement. In this film Imtiaz Ali, the director experimented with the subject of the young generation breaking social ties in order to pursue their career. Saif Ali Khan was obsessed to build bridges and he thought romantic relationships stood in the way of his success. Deepika Padukone also inspite of having affair with Saif Ali Khan thought that her career had priority over love relationship. She came to Mumbai from London to pursue her career.

Rishi Kapoor, a veteran in the film, did not like the carefree attitude of the youth. He thought that careers, professional life generally cannot stand in the way of the marital life and social responsibilities of individuals. At one point of time every young couple should settle. And if that factor is not there, life loses direction.

The online chemistry of Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone had worked in the film. The melodious music composed by Pritam had matched the romantic locations of London, San Fancisco, etc., where most part of the film was shot.

Imtiaz Ali used his skills of story-telling to portray another romantic film in somewhat same lines of that of Jab We Met. In that respect, Imtiaz Ali’s style of making films is not new to the viewers. But the viewers will wait for the ending of the film, as the climax was important.

Both Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone acted well in the film. Rishi Kapoor was sublime once again. His extra weight did not stand in the way of professional acting.

She even acted in comedy films like Chor Machaye Shor opposite Bobby Deol. Although the film had similar story like that of Amol Palekar’s Golmaal, Bipasha Basu maintained her style in the serio-comic film. Bobby Deol played two characters together in the film.

In the films released this year, Deepika Padukone and Ayesha Takia acted opposite Akshay Kumar. Their box-office popularity was not same as Katrina Kaif and that had made a huge difference.

In the last 5 years most the successful films of Akshay Kumar had Katrina Kaif in them. The combination entertained the viewers in the film Humko Dewaane Kar Gaye, and amazed them in the film Namaste London. Billu Barber is the next project of Shahrukh Khan which will address the audience in February. In 2008, Shahrukh Khan had a bad year as such, probably the worst year in the recent past. None of his films did great business and he could not make his presence felt among hit films of Akshay Kumar like Singh is Kinng or Hrithik Roshan’s Jodha Akbar or Amir Khan’s Ghajini.

He has all the possibilities of regaining his number one spot with the film Billu Barber. The film which is going to be released in February probably has most of the celebrities in one film together. It includes names like Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor to name a few. Even Irfan Khan who makes acting look so easy did a great job.

The film ended with a happy note. Lara Dutta played the role of a rustic villager in the film as opposed to the glamourous roles of Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. She hardly took any make up and provided natural performance. Probably her performance was the best amongst the rest of the heroines.

2009 can be the year of comeback of Shahrukh Khan. Once he is involved with big productions and believable stories his larger than life image always haunts the viewers. Shahrukh Khan starts off his journey in 2009, with brilliant performance in Billu Barber, his first release in 2009. 2008 had been a very average year for the superstar, with Hrithik Roshan, Amir Khan and Akshay Kumar contributing more in bollywood films than Shahrukh Khan. His film Rab Ne Bana De Jodi also did mediocre business as opposed to his blockbusters like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Om Shanti Om, etc.

In Billu Barber, Irfan Khan, a rustic villager met his school friend played by Shahrukh Khan when the entire shooting team came to his village to shoot a film. Shahrukh Khan played the lead role in that film and Irfan Khan was quite surprised to meet his old friend. The villagers urged him to disclose the stories relating to his friendship with Sharukh Khan at the time when the shooting was going on.

Irfan Khan felt very shy to do it, as he was only a barber by profession and doubted whether his friend was going to acknowledge his relationship with him as his status was that of a superstar and Irfan Khan’s intimacy with him would have affected his stardom in the film. The viewers will also have to wait in the film to see whether Shahrukh Khan recognizes Irfan Khan.

At the end of the film Shahrukh Khan revealed his relationship with Irfan Khan in the past and disclosed before the villagers the immense contribution of his old friend. He told them he got clothes from the friend when he did not have any and got food from him during his bad times.

The actresses in the film were all very impressive including Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. All of them had a very impressive year in 2008 and looked gorgeous in their costumes in Billu Barber. They played the role of the heroines of Shahrukh Khan who had come to the village for shooting the film.

Lara Dutta was even better in the role of a village woman. She has been a sensation over the years and showed her class of acting in Billu Barber once more. The music of the film composed by Pritam also was very impressive.

The main songs of the film like “marjani marjani” had already become hits before even the release of the film. Shahrukh Khan and Irfan Khan were brilliant in their respective roles.

The film has all the elements of entertainment including a strong storyline, powerful casting, good songs, good locations, and is going one of the blockbusters of 2009.
